Storyline:

The next installment of the Yellowstone origin story introduces a new generation of the Dutton family and explores the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the Mountain West, and the Duttons who call it home.

About Series:

In February 2022, it was announced that a second Yellowstone prequel series had been ordered, originally titled 1932, which would succeed 1883. In June, the title was changed to 1923. To emphasize the continuity of the Dutton family saga that began in 1883, Taylor Sheridan continued to use the character Elsa, voiced by Isabel May, as the narrator for 1923, just as in 1883. May is the only actor with main cast credits on both prequel series.

Pre-production for 1923 began in Butte, Montana, in July 2022, with filming scheduled to start on August 22 in the same location, as Butte served as a stand-in for Bozeman, Montana. Principal photography took place throughout Southwest Montana, with many scenes shot in the same locations as Yellowstone. Additional filming occurred in Kenya, Malta, South Africa, and Tanzania. Scenes set on the ocean liner RMS Majestic were filmed on the RMS Queen Mary, now a floating hotel in Long Beach, California.

The show was predicted to cost between $30–35 million per episode.

1923 premiered on December 18, 2022, on Paramount+. In February 2023, the series was renewed for a second season, but filming was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

Filming for the second season began in Austin, Texas, on July 8, 2024, and concluded on September 26, 2024. On September 25, 2024, it was announced that the series would return to its original Montana location, with filming resuming in and around the Butte area in late September and early October.
