Storyline:
Queenie Jenkins is a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in south London, living in between two cultures and entering neatly into neither.
About Queenie TV Series:
Queenie is a British television series, based on the novel of the same name by Candice Carty-Williams. The series is developed by Further South Productions in association with Lionsgate Television for Channel 4.
In 2019, Channel 4 began developing an adaptation of Carty-Williams’ novel. By August 2021, the network commissioned an eight-episode series with Carty-Williams as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Steve November and Sarah Conroy of Further South Productions, and Lisa Walters as co-executive and series producer. Writers include Ryan Calais Cameron, Yolanda Mercy, Natasha Brown, and Thara Popoola, with Joelle Mae David and Makalla McPherson directing.
In May 2023, the cast was announced, featuring Dionne Brown in the lead role. Other cast members include Samuel Adewunmi, Bellah, Sally Phillips, Jon Pointing, Tilly Keeper, Llewella Gideon, Michelle Greenidge, Cristale De’Abreu, Elisha Applebaum, and Mim Shaikh. Additional cast members announced in December 2023 are Joseph Marcell, Joseph Ollman, Melissa Johns, and Laura Whitmore.
Principal photography began in April 2023 in South London. First-look stills were released in December 2023.
Onyx Collective boarded the project in May 2023 as an international distributor; the series was first aired on Channel 4 on 4 June 2024 and on Hulu on 7 June 2024.
