Storyline:

Karnan lives in an oppressed remote village in Southern Tamil Nadu. Communal oppression haunts the village and continues preying on it as unprecedented events distort Karnan’s ordinary life. In the tremendous struggle that follows Karnan leads his village’s quest for justice and liberation. The subversive searing saga bears surrealistic touches as it tells a rousing story of rebellion.

About Karnan Movie:

Karnan is a Tamil action drama film written and directed by Mari Selvaraj. The film stars Dhanush, Rajisha Vijayan, Lal, Yogi Babu, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, G. M. Kumar and Natarajan Subramaniam.

In November 2018, Dhanush announced his upcoming project will be directed by Mari Selvaraj. After an extensive pre-production phase, the film was launched in January 2020 with the title Karnan. The story is primarily set in the rural Thoothukudi district. Shooting began soon after the launch and was completed in December 2020, despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Karnan was theatrically released on April 9, 2021, to critical acclaim. Despite controversies alleging that the film was influenced by the 1995 Kodiyankulam caste violence, it became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2021.

The satellite rights of the film were sold to Zee Tamil and the Streaming Rights of the film were acquired by Amazon Prime Video. It was streamed on Amazon Prime Video on 14 May 2021. It premiered on Zee Tamil at 6:00 PM on the occasion of Independence Day.
