Storyline:
The film follows Zang Jianhe, a single mother who created one of Hong Kong’s biggest food companies. The story traces her journey from struggling on the streets of Hong Kong to building a modest dumpling stand into a major food company, which was eventually sold for millions to Pillsbury. Additionally, the film provides a portrait of Hong Kong life, capturing its ups and downs over the decades.

The Dumpling Queen is an upcoming biographical drama film directed by Hong Kong director Andrew Lau and written by Jianv Han, Cindy Tang, and Mengchu Zhang. It is based on the real-life story of Zang Jianhe, the founder of the Wanchai Ferry dumpling brand, who is locally known as the “Dumpling Queen.”
Ma Li stars as Zang Jianhe. The supporting cast includes Kara Wai, Zhu Yawen, Wong Cho-Lam, Fiona Sit, Michael Tse, Steven McKinney, and others.
The Dumpling Queen marks a return to Hong Kong filmmaking for Andrew Lau, who is best known internationally for co-directing the crime classic Infernal Affairs (2002) with Alan Mak.
The Dumpling Queen is scheduled for release in Chinese theatres in 2024. It will also be released theatrically in North America, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand later in the year, following its premiere in China.
