Storyline:
Spellbound follows a tenacious young princess who must go on a daring quest to save her family and their kingdom after a mysterious spell transforms her parents into monsters.

Spellbound is an American animated adventure fantasy comedy film directed by Vicky Jenson, with a screenplay by Julia Miranda and writers Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin. Produced by Skydance Animation, the film features the voices of Rachel Zegler, John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Tituss Burgess, Nathan Lane, Javier Bardem, and Nicole Kidman.
Originally titled Split, the project was announced in July 2017, shortly after Skydance Animation was formed in March 2017, with Paramount Pictures initially scheduling it for a 2019 release. The film underwent several changes, including release dates and title, becoming “The Unbreakable Spell” before finally being named “Spellbound.” Vicky Jenson was later announced as the director.
The film was acquired by Apple TV+ in December 2020, before Netflix took over the rights in October 2023. Most of the main voice cast joined in June 2022, after Rachel Zegler was cast in April 2022. Production occurred remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Spellbound was released on November 22, 2024 on Netflix.
It is Skydance Animation’s first film to be rated PG by the MPAA. It is also the second animated film Alan Menken scored to not be from Walt Disney Animation Studios after Sausage Party (2016).
Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem’s second time acting together since Being the Ricardos (2021).
