About Movie:

Alien 3 (stylized as ALIEN³) is an American science fiction horror film directed by David Fincher in his feature directorial debut. It is the third installment in the Alien franchise, with Sigourney Weaver reprising her iconic role as Ellen Ripley. The film picks up right after the events of Aliens (1986), with Ripley as the sole survivor of the spaceship Sulaco after an escape pod crash lands on a desolate planet housing a penal colony of violent male inmates.

The supporting cast includes Charles Dance, Charles S. Dutton, Brian Glover, Ralph Brown, Paul McGann, and Lance Henriksen. Alien 3 faced significant production challenges, including script issues and frequent changes in directors and writers. Fincher was brought on after the initial version, with director Vincent Ward, was scrapped in pre-production. The chaotic production, combined with studio interference, led Fincher to later disown the film, stating that it was not reflective of his original vision.

Released on May 22, 1992, Alien 3 underperformed at the U.S. box office but grossed over $100 million internationally. It received mixed reviews, with many considering it inferior to the previous two installments. Despite the reception, the film was nominated for several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and multiple Saturn and Hugo Award nominations. In 2003, a longer “Assembly Cut” version was released, which received a more positive response than the original theatrical version, though Fincher was not involved in its creation.

A sequel, Alien Resurrection, followed in 1997.
