About Movie:

Veer-Zaara, is a Hindi epic romantic drama directed and produced by the legendary Yash Chopra, with a screenplay by his son, Aditya Chopra. The film features Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles, portraying the titular star-crossed lovers, Veer Pratap Singh, an Indian Air Force officer, and Zaara Hayaat Khan, the daughter of a Pakistani politician. The narrative unfolds as Veer is wrongfully imprisoned, and 22 years later, a young Pakistani lawyer, Saamiya Siddiqui (played by Rani Mukerji), takes on his case.

Chopra’s return to direction after a seven-year hiatus was marked by his desire to create a film that celebrated the essence of Punjab and its culture. Initially titled Yeh Kahaan Aa Gaye Hum, the film was shot in various locations across India and Pakistan, with principal photography taking place in Punjab and Mumbai. The soundtrack, featuring compositions by the late Madan Mohan, became the highest-selling album of the year, showcasing the timeless appeal of its music.

Upon its release on November 12, 2004, during the Diwali festival, Veer-Zaara achieved significant commercial success, grossing over ₹105 crore worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. The film received universal acclaim, praised for its captivating story, strong performances, and its sensitive portrayal of India-Pakistan relations. Veer-Zaara garnered numerous accolades, winning 34 awards out of 92 nominations, including the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the 52nd National Film Awards. At the 50th Filmfare Awards, it received 15 nominations and won four, including Best Film and Best Story. The film also triumphed at the International Indian Film Academy Awards, winning seven out of eleven nominations, including Best Film and Best Director for Yash Chopra.
