About Movie:

Raja Hindustani is a Hindi romantic drama film directed by Dharmesh Darshan. The film stars Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles and tells the story of a cab driver from a small town who falls in love with a wealthy young woman. Its plot is inspired by the 1965 film Jab Jab Phool Khile, featuring Shashi Kapoor and Nanda. The music for the film was composed by the popular duo Nadeem-Shravan, with lyrics by Sameer.

Released on November 15, 1996, Raja Hindustani became a major commercial success, grossing ₹76.34 crore worldwide and ranking as the year’s highest-grossing film. It is also noted as the third most commercially successful Hindi film of the 1990s in net gross. The film was made on a budget of ₹5.75 crore and received critical acclaim, winning five Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Actor for Aamir Khan, Best Actress for Karisma Kapoor, and Best Music.

The film’s music was particularly well-received, contributing to its popularity across India. Nadeem-Shravan earned their fourth Filmfare Award for the soundtrack, becoming one of the year’s best-selling albums. Karisma Kapoor’s performance as Aarti, a rich and ambitious young woman, was praised, marking a significant turning point in her career. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role, and the chemistry between her and Aamir Khan was highlighted, especially in a much-discussed kissing scene.

Raja Hindustani was later remade in Kannada as Naanu Naane in 2002 and dubbed in Telugu as Prema Bandham. The film’s legacy continues to influence Bollywood, and it remains a significant entry in the romantic drama genre of Indian cinema.
