About Movie:

Rustom is a Hindi crime thriller film directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, written by Vipul K Rawal, and produced by Cape of Good Films, Zee Studios, KriArj Entertainment, and Plan C Studios. The film stars Akshay Kumar as Rustom Pavri, a naval officer, alongside Ileana D’Cruz, Arjan Bajwa, and Esha Gupta in lead roles.

Made on a budget of ₹50 crore (approximately US$6 million), Rustom began principal photography in February 2016 and was theatrically released on August 12, 2016. The film opened to positive reviews, particularly for the performances and writing, and became a box office success, grossing over ₹210 crore (approximately US$25 million) worldwide. It was the fourth-highest-grossing Hindi film and the fifth-highest-grossing Indian film of 2016.

Rustom received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Akshay Kumar’s performance, which earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor at the 64th National Film Awards. Critics noted the film’s engaging storytelling, although some pointed out that it lacked the tension expected from a courtroom drama. The film’s melodramatic elements and portrayal of the characters drew mixed reactions, with some appreciating the performances while others felt the film did not fully capture the complexities of the real-life case it was based on.

Rustom’s success contributed to Akshay Kumar’s reputation as a leading actor in Bollywood, and the film remains significant for its exploration of a sensational historical case. Its blend of crime, drama, and romance, along with a strong musical score, helped solidify its place in contemporary Indian cinema.
