About Movie:
Kaaval is a Tamil romantic action film directed by Siddique, who also directed the original Malayalam film Bodyguard. The film stars Vijay, Asin, and Mithra Kurian, with Rajkiran, Roja Selvamani, and Vadivelu in supporting roles.
Principal photography for Kaavalan began in April 2010 and was completed by November of the same year. Initially scheduled for release on December 17, 2010, the film was postponed and eventually released on January 14, 2011. The film was selected for screening at the Shanghai International Film Festival and was later dubbed in Hindi as Main Hoon Bodyguard.
Upon release, Kaavalan received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances of Vijay, Asin, and Vadivelu, as well as the film’s humor and action sequences. It grossed ₹102 crore (approximately US$12 million) worldwide, marking it as a commercial success. Critics noted that Vijay’s performance marked a return to his romantic roots, shedding his usual action-hero persona.
Kaavalan is considered a significant film in Vijay’s career, showcasing his versatility as an actor. It also marked Asin’s return to Tamil cinema after a brief hiatus. The film’s blend of romance, comedy, and action, along with its engaging storyline, has helped it maintain a positive reputation among fans of Tamil cinema.
