Storyline:

Mansi, the daughter of a poor spiritual singer, and Manav, the son of a wealthy businessman, fall in love but the difference between their families rips them apart. Mansi then meets Vikrant, who helps her make a name as a famous dancer and singer. Trouble is stirred up when Manav decides to try and win her back.

Taal is a Hindi musical romantic drama film co-written, edited, produced, and directed by Subhash Ghai. The film stars Aishwarya Rai, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor in lead roles, with supporting performances by Amrish Puri and Alok Nath. It was also dubbed in Tamil as Thaalam.

The film premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival and was part of the official selection at the 2005 Ebertfest: Roger Ebert’s Film Festival. It was released on August 13, 1999, coinciding with the Indian Independence Day weekend.

Taal received critical acclaim for its direction, screenplay, dialogues, and especially its soundtrack, composed by A.R. Rahman. The film was a major commercial success, grossing ₹51.16 crore worldwide and becoming the first Indian film to reach the Top 20 on Variety‘s box-office list.
