About Movie:
The Sixth Sense is a 1999 American psychological thriller written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, starring Bruce Willis, Toni Collette, Olivia Williams, and Haley Joel Osment.
David Vogel, then-president of production at Walt Disney Studios, loved Shyamalan’s script and bought the rights for $3 million without corporate approval. This led to Vogel’s departure from Disney. The studio later sold the production rights to Spyglass Entertainment but retained distribution rights and 12.5% of the film’s box office earnings.
Filming took place mainly in Philadelphia, with notable locations including St. Augustine’s Church and Saint Albans Street.
Released on August 6, 1999, by Buena Vista Pictures under its Hollywood Pictures label, The Sixth Sense received widespread acclaim for its performances (particularly those of Willis, Osment, and Collette), atmosphere, direction, and its famous twist ending.
It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay for Shyamalan, as well as Best Supporting Actor for Osment and Best Supporting Actress for Collette.
The film was a massive commercial success, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 1999, behind Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, earning $293 million in the U.S. and $379 million internationally. The Sixth Sense cemented Shyamalan’s reputation as a master of thriller filmmaking, known for his signature twist endings.
