Happy Gilmore 2 is an American sports comedy film directed by Kyle Newacheck, and written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler. It is a sequel to Happy Gilmore (1996). Sandler, Julie Bowen, Dennis Dugan, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller reprise their roles from the original film.
In September 2022, Adam Sandler said that he wanted to make a sequel to Happy Gilmore, stating that he had been making ideas for what the sequel might be, describing that the character was part of a senior golf tour.
In March 2024, Christopher McDonald stated a sequel was being made, and Sandler had given him a draft of the script to read.
In May 2024, it was announced that Netflix had greenlit the film, taking over for the first film’s distributor, Universal Pictures.
Principal photography began on September 9, 2024, in New Jersey, coinciding with Sandler’s 58th birthday. A casting call took place at a hotel in Morristown, New Jersey. Filming wrapped on December 10, 2024.
