About Movie:
Odiyan is a Malayalam fantasy drama film directed by V. A. Shrikumar Menon in his feature film debut. The screenplay is written by Harikrishnan, and the film is based on the legend of the Odiyan clan, men believed to possess shapeshifting abilities in Kerala folklore.
Upon release, Odiyan received mixed reviews from critics, who praised Mohanlal’s performance, the film’s score, and its action sequences but criticized aspects such as direction, visual effects (VFX), and screenplay. Despite these critiques, the film was commercially successful, grossing over ₹54 crore (approximately US$7 million) worldwide within two weeks of its release, making it one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.
Odiyan stands out for its unique blend of fantasy and drama rooted in local folklore. It highlights the cultural significance of the Odiyan legend while showcasing Mohanlal’s versatility as an actor. The film’s success has contributed to a renewed interest in folklore-based narratives within Indian cinema.
