About Movie:

The Jungle Book is an American animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by Buena Vista Distribution. Loosely based on the “Mowgli” stories from Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 book, it is notable for being the last animated feature film overseen by Walt Disney, who passed away during its production. Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, the screenplay was crafted by Larry Clemmons, Ralph Wright, Ken Anderson, and Vance Gerry.

Early versions of the screenplay and soundtrack adhered more closely to Kipling’s work, presenting a darker tone that Disney ultimately rejected for this family film. This led to the replacement of writer Bill Peet and songwriter Terry Gilkyson.

Upon its release on October 18, 1967, The Jungle Book received positive reviews, particularly for its soundtrack featuring five songs by the Sherman Brothers and one by Gilkyson, including the iconic “The Bare Necessities.” The film grossed $23.8 million worldwide and became Disney’s second-highest-grossing animated film in the U.S. and Canada at that time. It also achieved significant success during re-releases and became Germany’s highest-grossing film based on admissions.

Disney later produced a live-action adaptation in 1994 and an animated sequel titled The Jungle Book 2 in 2003. A live-action/animated hybrid remake directed by Jon Favreau was released in 2016, with a sequel currently in development.
