Storyline:

When Jane and Michael Banks are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins. Embarking on a series of fantastical adventures with her and her Cockney performer friend, Bert, they try to pass on some of her sunny attitudes to their preoccupied parents.

Mary Poppins is an American musical fantasy comedy film directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney. The film features songs written and composed by the Sherman Brothers and is based on P. L. Travers’s book series. It stars Julie Andrews in her feature film debut as Mary Poppins, who visits a dysfunctional family in London, using her magical abilities to improve their lives. The cast also includes Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, and Glynis Johns.

Released on August 27, 1964, Mary Poppins received critical acclaim and was a commercial success, earning $44 million in theatrical rentals during its original run and grossing over $103 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing film of 1964 in the United States and Disney’s highest-grossing film at that time. The film garnered thirteen Academy Award nominations, winning five, including Best Actress for Andrews and Best Original Song for “Chim Chim Cher-ee.” It is regarded as one of Walt Disney’s crowning achievements in live-action cinema and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2013.

A biographical drama about the making of the film, Saving Mr. Banks, was released on October 20, 2013. A sequel titled Mary Poppins Returns premiered on December 19, 2018.
