Storyline:
Owen Hendricks, a young CIA lawyer whose first week on the job turns upside down when he discovers a threatening letter by former asset Max Meladze, who plans to expose the agency unless they exonerate her of a serious crime. Owen quickly becomes entangled in a dangerous and often absurd world of power politics and mischievous players, as he travels the world in hopes of completing his assignment and making a mark at the CIA.

Netflix acquired an unnamed espionage drama on April 28, 2021, produced by Entertainment One. Created by Alexi Hawley, known for Castle and The Rookie, the series was titled Graymail, with Hawley as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers included Noah Centineo, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, Dave Bartis, Adam Ciralsky, and Charlie Ebersol.
Planned as an eight-part, one-hour series, it was announced on September 28, 2022, that Hawley, George Ghanem, Amelia Roper, Hadi Deeb, Niceole Levy, and Maya Goldsmith would write the episodes, while Doug Liman, Alex Kalymnios, Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr., and Julian Holmes directed.
Noah Centineo was confirmed as the lead on April 28, 2021.
Principal photography for Season 1 began in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, and Los Angeles on October 25, 2021, and wrapped on March 28, 2022. Season 2 filming began on January 4, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada, and Seoul, South Korea.
Titled The Recruit, the series premiered on Netflix on December 16, 2022, and was renewed for a second season on January 26, 2023.
