About Series:

Gossip Girl is based on Cecily von Ziegesar’s novel series of the same name. The original series aired on The CW from September 19, 2007, to December 17, 2012, spanning six seasons and 121 episodes. By 2012, it was broadcast in 197 countries.

Originally planned as a film starring Lindsay Lohan and helmed by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, the project transitioned to a television series developed by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz. The CW greenlit the show in January 2007.

Filmed primarily in New York City, Gossip Girl became known for showcasing iconic locations, including Geisha, the Campbell Apartment, and the New York Palace Hotel bar Gilt. New York Magazine dubbed it the “Most Restauranty Show Since Sex and the City.”

Each episode opens with the Gossip Girl website’s homepage and features a recap of past events. Episode titles reference films or novels, such as “The Wild Brunch” (The Wild Bunch), “Seventeen Candles” (Sixteen Candles), and “All About My Brother” (All About My Mother).

Gossip Girl TV Series is known for its product placement and played a significant role in the series’ success. Sponsors included Verizon Wireless, VitaminWater, HP TouchPad, Procter & Gamble, L’Oreal, Target, and Johnson & Johnson, helping the show earn $28.2 million in ad revenue in 2007.

A ratings hit in its early seasons, Gossip Girl received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences but became known for using negative critical reviews in its marketing. The series won numerous accolades, including 18 Teen Choice Awards. It gained a large cult following, influenced other teen dramas and spawned several international television adaptations. The series was followed by a standalone sequel which aired for two seasons between 2021 and 2023 on HBO Max before being cancelled.

In the 2024 film Deadpool and Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds, married to Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, jokes about having 207 bones while watching the series.

A standalone sequel, also titled Gossip Girl, premiered on HBO Max on July 8, 2021. Set nine years after the original, it features new characters at Constance Billard, with Kristen Bell reprising her role as the voice of Gossip Girl.
