Storyline:

An innovative look at the life of fictional Mafia Capo Tony Soprano, this serial is presented largely first person, but additional perspective is conveyed by the intimate conversations Tony has with his psychotherapist. We see Tony at work, at home, and in therapy. Moments of black comedy intersperse this aggressive, adult drama, with adult language, and extreme violence.

About Series:

The Sopranos is an American crime drama series created by David Chase. It stars James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli, Dominic Chianese, Steven Van Zandt, Tony Sirico, Robert Iler, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

Premiering on January 10, 1999, the series aired on HBO until June 10, 2007, across six seasons and 86 episodes. It was produced by HBO, Chase Films, and Brad Grey Television, and filmed primarily at Silvercup Studios in New York, with some scenes shot in New Jersey. Executive producers included Chase, Brad Grey, Robin Green, Mitchell Burgess, Ilene S. Landress, Terence Winter, and Matthew Weiner.

The Sopranos is widely considered one of the greatest TV series ever, often credited with initiating the Second Golden Age of Television. It garnered numerous awards, including Peabody Awards for its first two seasons, 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards. The show has influenced critical discourse, inspired parody, and spawned books, a video game, soundtracks, podcasts, and merchandise. Several cast members, initially unknown, later achieved great success. In 2013, the Writers Guild of America named it the best-written TV series, and in 2016 and 2022, The Sopranos topped Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 greatest TV shows.

In March 2018, New Line Cinema announced the development of a prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark (2021), which explores the 1960s and 1970s backdrop of the Newark riots. Written by Chase and Lawrence Konner and directed by Alan Taylor, the film stars Michael Gandolfini, the son of James Gandolfini, as a young Tony Soprano.
