About Movie:
The Croods: A New Age (also known as The Croods 2) is an American animated adventure comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures. It serves as a sequel to The Croods (2013) and is the second installment in The Croods franchise. Directed by Joel Crawford in his feature directorial debut, the film features a screenplay by Paul Fisher, Bob Logan, and the writing team of Dan and Kevin Hageman, based on a story by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders, who directed the original film.
The voice cast includes returning actors Nicolas Cage as Grug Crood, Emma Stone as Eep Crood, Ryan Reynolds as Guy, Catherine Keener as Ugga Crood, Clark Duke as Thunk Crood, and Cloris Leachman as Gran. New additions to the cast include Peter Dinklage as Phil Betterman, Leslie Mann as Hope Betterman, and Kelly Marie Tran as Dawn Betterman.
In this sequel, the Crood family, along with Guy and their pets Belt, Chunky, and Douglas, discover an idyllic walled-in paradise that seems perfect for their needs. However, they soon encounter the Betterman family, who are more evolved and live in this new environment. The film explores themes of family dynamics and adaptation as both families learn to coexist despite their differences.
Initially announced in April 2013, development of The Croods: A New Age faced delays and was briefly canceled in November 2016 due to uncertainties following Universal’s acquisition of DreamWorks. The project was revived in September 2017 with Crawford taking over directorial duties. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much of the animation work was completed remotely.
The film premiered theatrically in the United States on November 25, 2020. It grossed approximately $215 million worldwide against a budget of $65 million and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its animation and voice performances while describing it as “a decent-enough follow-up.” The Croods: A New Age was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
Overall, The Croods: A New Age continues the adventures of the beloved prehistoric family while introducing new characters and challenges that resonate with audiences of all ages.
