Released in 2014, John Wick became a hot topic everywhere. It received generally positive reviews for its style and its action sequences, as well as critics hailed John Wick as a comeback for Reeves, in a role that played to his acting strengths.

During its opening weekend, the film earned $14.4 million across 2,589 theaters—an average of $5,568 per theater, providing it with the number two position for the weekend, second to Ouija ($19.9 million) and ahead of Fury ($13.3 million), which made its second weekend.
