About Saakini Daakini Movie
Saakini Daakini is a Telugu action comedy directed by Sudheer Varma and produced by Suresh Productions, Guru Films, and Kross Pictures. A remake of the 2017 South Korean film Midnight Runners, the film stars Regina Cassandra and Nivetha Thomas, with music composed by Mikey McCleary.
In January 2020, producer Suresh Babu acquired the remake rights of Midnight Runners in collaboration with Seoul-based Kross Pictures. Sudheer Varma was signed to direct the remake, and in August 2020, Regina Cassandra and Nivetha Thomas were cast as the leads.
Principal photography began in March 2021 but was temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The final schedule resumed in July 2021, and filming concluded by August. The title Saakini Daakini was officially announced in November 2021.
This marks Varma’s first remake as a director. While the original film featured male protagonists, he reimagined the story with female leads, making necessary script adjustments. The film was shot entirely in Hyderabad.
Saakini Daakini was released theatrically on 16 September 2022. Initially, in December 2021, the makers considered a direct-to-streaming release on Netflix due to pandemic uncertainties. Eventually, the film had a theatrical release before premiering on Netflix on 30 September 2022, available in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.
