Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is a direct sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) and serves as the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series. In January 2019, Tom Cruise announced that the seventh and eighth films would be filmed back-to-back, and that Christopher McQuarrie would be writing and directing both films.
Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett reprise their roles from the previous films. Notably, Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames are the only two actors to have appeared in all eight Mission: Impossible films. The character of CIA Analyst William Donloe is also reprised in this film from the first “Mission: Impossible” (1996).
The Final Reckoning had its world premiere in Tokyo on May 5, 2025, and was screened out of competition at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on May 14. The film was theatrically released in the United States on May 23, by Paramount Pictures. With a runtime of 169 minutes, it is the longest Mission: Impossible film to date.
Untitled Alejandro G. Iñárritu Film
Tom Cruise is set to star in an upcoming film directed by four-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu. In this film, Cruise portrays the most powerful man in the world, who causes a disaster and then embarks on a mission to prove that he is the savior of humanity.
In February 2024, it was officially announced that Iñárritu would direct and co-produce his first English-language film since The Revenant (2015). The film also stars Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, Emma D’Arcy, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman.
Shooting for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s untitled movie began on November 7, 2024, in the United Kingdom and concluded last April 2025. Shooting was halted for two days in March 2025 after John Goodman had a minor hip injury and was hospitalized. Principal photography officially wrapped on May 3, 2025, after six months of filming.
The film is scheduled for release in the United States on October 2, 2026, taking over the original release date of an untitled The Batman sequel. This project is highly anticipated, marking a significant departure from Cruise’s usual action genre films and offering audiences a glimpse of him in a more complex and dramatic performance.
Live Die Repeat And Repeat (Also known as Edge of Tomorrow 2) (rumored)
The sequel to the 2014 sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow, tentatively titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat, has been in development for several years. In a December 2015 interview with Collider, Christopher McQuarrie revealed that Tom Cruise had come up with an idea for the sequel and said the concept was “locked and loaded.”In May 2017, director Doug Liman confirmed the title of the movie and stated that both Cruise and Emily Blunt would be returning to their respective roles from the initial film. However, as of now, the project remains in development with no confirmed production start date or official release schedule.
Broadsword
Tom Cruise will star in Broadsword, a World War II action drama, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, his longtime collaborator. The pair have collaborated on several recent blockbusters, including the Mission: Impossible movie series and Jack Reacher. This would be their ninth collaboration. The film shooting is expected to take place in July 2025, after the release of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on May 23, 2025.
Broadsword is the story of a Marine Sergeant who manages to survive a crash in France during World War II. He is the only survivor of his mission, and he teams up with a courageous French girl. They must make their way through enemy territory and face numerous obstacles as they try to reach friendly lines safely.
This movie marks Cruise’s return to a World War II setting, similar to his role in Valkyrie (2008), where he played Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the man behind a failed plot to kill Adolf Hitler.
The entire cast hasn’t been announced yet, but Broadsword will hit theaters sometime in 2026.
