Storyline:
Set in the 1970s, the film follows a filmmaker and a gangster, who team up to make a Western film.
About Jigarthanda DoubleX Movie:
It is a standalone prequel to Jigarthanda (2014).
The film was officially announced on August 1, 2022. Principal photography began that December and wrapped in July 2023.
Filming took place in exotic locations across Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Many extensive sets were created to match the film’s setting. A set was erected in Thandikudi near Kodaikanal where major portions of the film were shot.
The first look poster was released on 11 December 2022, with the film’s title revealed as Jigarthanda DoubleX. The teaser was released on 12 December 2022.
SJ Suryah’s character in the film is heavily inspired by legendary Bengali filmmaker, Satyajit Ray.
Jigarthanda DoubleX was released on November 10, 2023, the week of Diwali. The film received positive reviews from critics.
The digital streaming rights were acquired by Netflix, and Sun TV purchased the satellite rights. The film began streaming on Netflix from 8 December 2023.
