About Movie:
A Christmas Story is a Christmas comedy film directed by Bob Clark, based on Jean Shepherd’s semi-fictional anecdotes from his 1966 book In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash. The film also incorporates elements from Shepherd’s 1971 book Wanda Hickey’s Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters. It stars Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, and Peter Billingsley, following a young boy named Ralphie Parker and his family’s misadventures during the Christmas season in the 1940s.
A Christmas Story* received positive reviews from critics and has since become a holiday classic in both the United States and Canada. It has been featured in an annual marathon on TNT since 1997 and on TBS since 2004, titled “24 Hours of A Christmas Story,” showcasing twelve consecutive airings from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day.
In 2012, the Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The film has spawned three sequels: My Summer Story (1994), A Christmas Story 2 (2012), and A Christmas Story Christmas (2022), which features many of the original cast members returning.
