Storyline:
Mismatched cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd-couple’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.
About A Real Pain Movie:
A Real Pain is a comedy-drama film, written, directed, and produced by Jesse Eisenberg. The film stars Eisenberg, Kieran Culkin, and Jennifer Grey. It marks Eisenberg’s second feature film as writer/director after 2022’s When You Finish Saving the World.
Principal photography for the film began in May 2023. This is the first time a narrative feature has been allowed to shoot on location at an actual concentration camp. Pivotal scenes were shot at the Mandragora Jewish Restaurant in Old Town Lublin. Some scenes were shot on location at Radom-Sadków Airport.
About 100 extras all throughout Poland were used during an approximate 2-month shoot in summer ’23. Sceneria Acting Agency, based in Warsaw, was responsible for the recruitment of these extras.
Disney’s Searchlight Pictures acquired worldwide distribution rights for the film for $10 million in an all-night auction at the Sundance Film Festival.
A Real Pain premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2024, and received a limited theatrical release in the United States on November 1, 2024.
