About Movie:
Aashiqui is a Hindi musical romantic drama film and the first installment of the Aashiqui series franchise, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The film stars Rahul Roy, Anu Aggarwal, and Deepak Tijori in pivotal roles. It is especially notable for its music, composed by the duo Nadeem–Shravan (Nadeem Akhtar Saifi and Shravan Kumar Rathod), which played a significant role in establishing their careers, along with that of singer Kumar Sanu and the music label T-Series.
Upon its release, Aashiqui received positive reviews and emerged as a commercial success. The soundtrack album became the best-selling Bollywood album at the time, selling over 20 million units and earning a place as the fourth-best soundtrack in Planet Bollywood’s “100 Greatest Bollywood Soundtracks” list. At the 36th Filmfare Awards, Aashiqui received seven nominations and won four, sweeping the music categories.
The soundtrack of Aashiqui is one of its most celebrated aspects, featuring timeless hits like “Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi Mein Aana,” “Tum Hi Ho,” and “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai.” The success of the soundtrack significantly impacted Bollywood music, reviving the filmi-ghazal genre and establishing Nadeem–Shravan as leading composers in the industry.
Aashiqui’s enduring popularity has led to its recognition as a classic in Indian cinema. It was remade in Kannada as Roja (2002), and a sequel titled Aashiqui 2 was released on April 26, 2013, featuring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. The sequel also achieved commercial success and further solidified the Aashiqui franchise’s legacy in Bollywood.
