About Movie:
Aashiqui 2 is a Hindi romantic musical drama film directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar under the Vishesh Films and T-Series Films banners, with Mahesh Bhatt serving as presenter. A spiritual successor to the 1990 musical film Aashiqui, the film is also an adaptation of the American cult classic A Star Is Born, in both its original 1937 version and 1976 remake.
The film stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles, with Shaad Randhawa, Mahesh Thakur, and Salil Acharya in supporting parts. Set in the early 2010s, Aashiqui 2 centers on the turbulent romantic relationship between Rahul Jaykar, a failing singer, and his protege, aspiring singer Aarohi Keshav Shirke. Their love story is affected by Rahul’s struggles with alcohol abuse and temperament.
Production began in 2011, with principal photography taking place in Cape Town, Goa, and Mumbai on a budget of ₹18 crore (US$2.2 million). Despite initial concerns about living up to the success of the original, Aashiqui 2 became a commercial success upon its release on April 26, 2013, in Pakistan and April 27 in India. The film was one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2013, earning over ₹109 crore (US$13 million) within the first four weeks, and eventually became the highest-grossing production for the Bhatt brothers and Vishesh Films.
The soundtrack, featuring songs like “Tum Hi Ho,” “Sunn Raha Hai,” “Chahun Main Ya Naa,” and “Milne Hai Mujhse Aayi,” became an instant chartbuster and is often cited as one of the best albums of the decade. A Telugu remake titled Nee Jathaga Nenundali was later released.
