About Movie:
Alien is a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott, with a screenplay by Dan O’Bannon, based on a story by O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. The film stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto. Produced by Gordon Carroll, David Giler, and Walter Hill, Alien is known for its terrifying atmosphere, groundbreaking design, and the iconic alien creature designed by Swiss artist H. R. Giger.
The film premiered on May 25, 1979, at the Seattle International Film Festival and was released widely in June. Though initially met with mixed reviews, Alien became a box-office success and went on to win an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It also garnered several Saturn Awards and a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
Over time, Alien has been critically reassessed and is now regarded as one of the greatest and most influential science fiction and horror films of all time. The Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2002 due to its cultural and historical significance. Its success launched a franchise that includes sequels like Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), and Alien Resurrection (1997), as well as crossover films, prequels directed by Scott, and an installment titled Alien: Romulus (2024). Sigourney Weaver’s portrayal of Ellen Ripley became iconic, making her character central to the franchise’s enduring legacy.
