Storyline:
Jean Monier is a disillusioned lawyer, appointed to defend Nicolas Milik, a man accused of murdering his wife. While everything points to Milik’s guilt, Monier takes up the case, convinced of his innocence. As his investigations take him back to the night of the murder and the family dynamics, he also gets closer to his client, adding to the pressure to defend him. What seems to be such an ordinary case will put him to the test.

An Ordinary Case (French: Le Fil, lit. ’The Thread’) is a French legal drama film written, directed, and starring Daniel Auteuil, as a lawyer hired to defend a client accused of his wife’s murder.
The screenplay for An Ordinary Case was co-written by Daniel Auteuil and Steven Mitz, and is an adaptation of Le Livre de Maître Mô, a book chronicling the legal experiences of French criminal lawyer and blogger Jean-Yves Moyart.
The film had its world premiere in the Special Screenings section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 21 May 2024. It was theatrically released on 11 September 2024 by Zinc.
