About Avengers: Doomsday Movie
At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, Marvel Studios announced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and confirmed Destin Daniel Cretton as director shortly afterward. In September, Jeff Loveness, writer of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), was revealed to be writing the screenplay.
In November 2023, Destin Daniel Cretton exited the project, and Michael Waldron, known for Loki (2021) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), replaced Loveness as the screenwriter. Jonathan Majors, initially set to reprise his role as Kang the Conqueror, was fired in December 2023. By this time, Marvel referred to the project internally as Avengers 5.
At the July 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios announced the film’s new title, Avengers: Doomsday. The presentation confirmed Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom, marking his return to the MCU after previously portraying Tony Stark / Iron Man. Anthony and Joe Russo were announced as directors, with Stephen McFeely handling the screenplay. The Russo brothers also serve as producers through their AGBO production company.
Principal photography for Doomsday began on April 28, 2025, at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, under the working title Apple Pie 1. Filming is expected to last for approximately six months
The film will feature the Fantastic Four, with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach reprising their roles.
A sequel, titled Avengers: Secret Wars, is scheduled to be released on May 7, 2027. It is also being written by McFeely and directed by the Russo brothers. The film will conclude Phase Six of the MCU.
