Bhool Chuk Maaf Movie Release Update: Not on OTT, Coming to Theaters
The release journey of Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao and rising star Wamiqa Gabbi, has taken several dramatic turns. Initially planned for a theatrical release on May 9, 2025, the film was abruptly shifted to a direct-to-OTT release on May 16 via Amazon Prime Video, citing the 2025 India–Pakistan conflict as the reason.
However, with over ₹3 crore in advance ticket sales already recorded, the last-minute change triggered outrage from film distributors and exhibitors. Leading multiplex chain PVR INOX filed a lawsuit against the film’s producers, Maddock Films, for cancelling the theatrical release without prior notice, alleging significant financial losses.
In response, the Bombay High Court issued an order on May 9, 2025, restraining Maddock Films from releasing the movie on any streaming platform until the mandatory 8-week theatrical holdback period expired.
Following negotiations, both parties reached a mutual agreement. Bhool Chuk Maaf is now going to be released in theaters on May 23, 2025, while its OTT premiere has been set for June 6, 2025, two weeks after its theatrical release.
Written and directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film also has an impressive supporting cast, including Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, Raghubir Yadav, Zakir Hussain, and Ishtiyak Khan.
Set in Varanasi, the film narrates the story of Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao), a romantic soul who lands a government job with the dream of marrying his girlfriend, Titli Mishra (Wamiqa Gabbi). Just as the couple prepares for their wedding, a mysterious time loop traps Ranjan in a cycle where each day resets to the Haldi ceremony—a phenomenon Titli is completely unaware of. What follows is a blend of romance, comedy, and fantasy as Ranjan desperately tries to break free from the loop and make his wedding happen.
Bhool Chuk Maaf is one of the most awaited Hindi films of 2025. With its talented cast, unique time-loop storyline, and a mix of romance and fantasy, it promises to be clean entertainment.
