About Movie:
Creed is an American sports drama directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Aaron Covington. As the seventh installment in the Rocky series and its first spin-off, the film stars Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Bellew, and Graham McTavish.
Although Rocky Balboa (2006) was considered the conclusion of the franchise, MGM hired Coogler in 2013 to develop a spin-off. Coogler and Covington completed the screenplay in 2014, with Jordan and Stallone attached early on. The rest of the cast was confirmed by January 2015.
Principal photography began in January 2015, with scenes filmed at Goodison Park during a Barclays Premier League match between Everton and West Bromwich Albion. Goodison Park also hosted the film’s climactic fight between Adonis and “Pretty” Ricky Conlan, played by Tony Bellew.
Filming took place across various locations in Philadelphia, including a boxing gym and the Victor CafĂ©, which was transformed into “Adrian’s Restaurant” for the film. Additional scenes were shot at Sun Center Studios in Aston Township.
Creed premiered on November 19, 2015, at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles and was released in the U.S. on November 25 by Warner Bros. Pictures, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the opening scene in the original Rocky. The film grossed $173 million worldwide and received critical acclaim for Coogler’s direction, the screenplay, and the performances of its cast.
Stallone, in particular, won multiple awards for his portrayal of Rocky, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and a nomination for the Academy Award in the same category. The film was followed by Creed II (2018) and Creed III (2023). Creed was the first in the franchise to be produced by Sylvester Stallone.
