Ed Sheeran Surprises Fans on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Switches to Hindi and Punjabi
In a delightful twist, internationally renowned singer-songwriter and musician Ed Sheeran made an unexpected appearance on the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The Netflix comedy series, hosted by Kapil Sharma, recently released a trailer showcasing Sheeran’s hilarious and entertaining encounter with the show’s cast.
The trailer opens with Krushna Abhishek, a character on the show, quipping, “These people say Netflix doesn’t have ads, but look who has arrived in full!” before Sheeran bursts into laughter. Kapil then playfully banters the popstar, stating, “You may be younger than me in age, but I am younger than you in English!” to which Sheeran responds by embracing him.
The trailer also offers a glimpse into Sheeran’s musical prowess as he performs a Bhangra-infused rendition of his global hit, “Shape of You”. Kapil inquires about Sheeran’s encounter with Shah Rukh Khan at Mannat, and the singer replies in Hindi, “Bade bade shehro mein choti choti baatein hoti rehti hai,” a nod to Shah Rukh’s iconic dialogue from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
The trailer concludes with Kapil and Sheeran reenacting Shah Rukh’s famous pose. Sheeran also sings a Punjabi jingle, “Aayo aayo, Lakhanpal nu janmdin aayo, Eating cake and eating barfi, paneer pakoda eating,” before correcting Kapil, stating, “No, no, my show is in Mumbai.”
The Great Indian Kapil Show, which has been streaming on Netflix for over a month, has received mixed reviews. The previous episode featured the star cast of Heeramandi, including Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sanjeeda Sheikh.
Created and presented by Kapil Sharma also stars Archana Puran Singh, Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek, and Rajiv Thakur. The new episode featuring Ed Sheeran will be premiered on 18 May 2024.
