About Movie:
Fifty Shades of Grey is an American erotic romantic drama directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and written by Kelly Marcel. Based on E. L. James’ 2011 novel, it marks the first installment in the Fifty Shades film series. The movie stars Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Jennifer Ehle, and Marcia Gay Harden.
Development began in 2012 when Universal and Focus Features secured the rights to the novel trilogy after a competitive bidding war. Following Marcel’s hiring as screenwriter, several high-profile directors were considered, including Joe Wright, Patty Jenkins, and Steven Soderbergh, before Taylor-Johnson was confirmed in 2013. She cited films like 9½ Weeks (1986), Last Tango in Paris (1972), and Blue Is the Warmest Colour (2013) as inspirations. Principal photography ran from December 2013 to February 2014, with reshoots in October 2014. Danny Elfman composed the score.
Premiering at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival on February 11, 2015, and released on February 13 in IMAX, the film received mixed to negative reviews but became a box office phenomenon, grossing $569.7 million globally on a $40 million budget. Its soundtrack also achieved success, featuring “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding, which was nominated for a Golden Globe, and “Earned It” by the Weeknd, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
At the 36th Golden Raspberry Awards, Fifty Shades of Grey won five out of six nominations, including Worst Picture. It was followed by two sequels, Fifty Shades Darker (2017) and Fifty Shades Freed (2018), both commercially successful despite negative critical reception.
