Storyline:

In this Irving Berlin musical, Jim (Bing Crosby) and Lila are members of a performing trio who plan to quit and run a country hotel. When Lila says she has fallen in love with the dancer in the act, Ted (Fred Astaire), Jim leaves town with a broken heart. After turning the inn into a holidays-only live entertainment venue, Jim winds up booking — and falling for — Linda (Marjorie Reynolds). But when Ted shows up at the place after being dumped by Lila, he too sets his sights on beautiful Linda.

Holiday Inn is an American musical film featuring stars Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, alongside Marjorie Reynolds, Virginia Dale, and Walter Abel. Directed by Mark Sandrich, the film showcases music composed by Irving Berlin, who wrote twelve original songs for the project, with “White Christmas” becoming the most iconic. The film also includes a reuse of the song “Easter Parade,” originally written for the 1933 Broadway revue As Thousands Cheer.

Holiday Inn premiered on December 26, 1982, and was an immediate success, receiving critical acclaim. It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “White Christmas” and garnered nominations for Best Score and Best Original Story. The film’s choreography was handled by Danny Dare.

Recognized for its cultural significance, Holiday Inn ranked 71st on the British Film Institute’s list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes in 2000 and has become a staple of holiday viewing.
