The Continental: From the World of John Wick (2023)

The Continental: From the World of John Wick (or simply The Continental ) serves as a spin-off and a prequel in the John Wick franchise. It tells the background story of how Winston Scott, in an alternate history 1970s, came to his position as proprietor of the New York branch of “The Continental” chain of hotels, safe havens for professional assassins on the grounds of which no business may ever take place.

Neo noir crime-action drama television miniseries developed by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons where Coolidge and Ward served as showrunners for the series and wrote the scripts alongside Simmons and Ken Kristensen. Albert Hughes directed the first and third episodes, and Charlotte Brändström directed the second. The show stars Mel Gibson and Colin Woodell.

The Continental is currently available to stream on Peacock.

John Wick (2014)

The first installment of John Wick franchise, Keanu Reeves stars as John Wick, a legendary hitman who comes out of retirement to seek revenge against the men who killed his dog, a final gift from his recently deceased wife. The film also stars Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.

Directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad, the film was an unexpected blockbuster, and received a generally positive reception due to it’s style and action scenes. Critics praised John Wick as a comeback for Reeves in playing to his strengths as an actor. The film’s mythology of a criminal underworld with rituals and rules was praised as distinctive and interesting.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

Following through on his adventure in the first film, John’s journey continues in John Wick: Chapter 2 (like it or not). After being compelled to fulfill a debt from his previous life, John Wick is dispatched to kill a target he has no desire to kill and ultimately meets with some betrayal at the hands of his sponsor.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019)

The film is the sequel to John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) and the third installment in the John Wick franchise. John Wick is declared excommunicado after killing an international crime lord on Continental grounds, where he sets out to save himself from bounty hunters and assassins.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025)

Taking place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4, Eve Macarro, a ballerina-assassin, begins to train in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma and sets out to exact revenge for her father’s death.

This is also the second film which featured the collaboration of Yen and Adkins, after Ip Man 4: The Finale (2019).

Other John Wick Projects in Development

Untitled Caine film (TBA)

In May 2024, it was officially announced that a spin-off film centered around Caine was in development, with Donnie Yen reprising his role as the titular character. The script written by Robert Askins, will explore the continuing story that chronologically follows the final scene of John Wick: Chapter 4.

Untitled animated prequel film (TBA)

In April 2025, Lionsgate officially green-lit the project at CinemaCon, with Reeves confirmed to reprise his lead role through voice recording. Shannon Tindle is directing, with a script by Vanessa Taylor. The timeline was confirmed and will be chronologically before the first film.

John Wick: Chapter 5 (TBA)

In August 2020, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer announced a fifth film was also in development. It was supposed to be filmed back-to-back with the fourth film in early 2021 but in March 2021, Lionsgate opted to delay production and move forward with Chapter 4 first.

After the financial and critical success of Chapter 4, producer Erica Lee expressed that with projects expanding the universe in development, she was optimistic about a fifth film. 

In November 2023, following the end of the writers and actors strikes, Lionsgate announced that the script for the fifth film was officially in development. Filming date still unknown.

John Wick: Under the High Table (TBA)

In November 2023, Chad Stahelski revealed that developments are underway for another spin-off television series. The plot of the series will take place chronologically after the events of Chapter 4 and will follow new characters who strive to usurp the High Table, while returning cast members of the franchise seek to maintain the current order.

Other potential projects

Lionsgate has a number of additional projects in various stages of development, set within the same fictional continuity as the John Wick films. Here are some potencial projects Atomic Blonde crossover, Nobody crossover, Sofia, The Bowery King, and Ballerina sequel.

Stahelski, Leitch, and Lee additionally expressed interest in having John Leguizamo, David Patrick Kelly, Thomas Sadoski, Common, and Willem Dafoe reprise their supporting roles in the future.
