In late January 2024, it was reported that a new Jurassic World film was in development by Universal Pictures, with David Koepp writing the screenplay. Koepp had previously written Jurassic Park (1993) and its sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Although Colin Trevorrow, who directed the previous Jurassic World films, stated he would not return except in an advisory role, the new installment is produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley through The Kennedy/Marshall Company, with Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer through Amblin Entertainment.

The film is described as a completely new take, with none of the actors from the Jurassic Park or Jurassic World trilogies expected to return. Koepp had been developing the project for some time, with several drafts already written and pre-production work, including dinosaur designs, well underway.

The film aims to return to the tone of the original Jurassic Park, with Spielberg and Koepp seeking to align the new installment with the scientific accuracy and spirit of the earlier films. Paleontologist Stephen Brusatte, who consulted on Jurassic World Dominion, is returning as a dinosaur consultant.

David Leitch was briefly considered to direct the film, but negotiations fell through due to limited room for his creative input. In February 2024, Gareth Edwards, known for Godzilla (2014), was announced as the director. Edwards, a fan of the original Jurassic Park, accepted the project despite planning a break from studio filmmaking.

Casting began in March 2024 and continued over the next few months. The cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Rupert Friend, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, and Béchir Sylvain. Johansson, a longtime fan of the franchise, secured a role after Jennifer Lawrence had been considered. Glen Powell, who voiced Dave in Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, declined a role.

Principal photography began in Thailand on June 13, 2024, under the working title Saga, with filming locations including Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, Ko Kradan at Hat Chao Mai National Park, and Ao Phang Nga National Park. Filming then moved to the Malta Film Studios in Kalkara, Malta, in July 2024, followed by London and Sky Studios Elstree in the UK in August, wrapping up on September 27, 2024. Reshoots took place in New York City in October. John Mathieson served as the cinematographer.

Jurassic World Rebirth Storyline (Plot)

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Scarlett Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park.
