Storyline:

To save her mother from terminal cancer, a young girl gets herself involved with the drug trafficking mafia active in the small towns of Tamil Nadu.

About Kolamavu Kokila Movie:

Kolamavu Kokila is a Tamil comedy crime film starring Nayanthara in the lead role alongside Yogi Babu, Saranya Ponvannan, VJ Jacqueline, R. S. Shivaji, Charles Vinoth, Hareesh Peradi in supporting roles. It was written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar in his directorial debut, and produced by Lyca Productions.

This film marks the directorial debut of Nelson Dilipkumar.

Filming began on August 23, 2017, with television anchor Jacqueline joining the cast during the first schedule. Despite eight days of shooting, production came to a halt on September 1 due to a strike organized by the Film Employees Federation of South India, which lasted for 12 days. Shooting resumed and continued for four months, concluding on January 5, 2018.

Kolamavu Kokila was released theatrically on August 17, 2018. The film received positive reviews from critics who praised the performances of the cast (particularly Nayanthara), use of black comedy, technical aspects, screenplay, and direction. It was remade in Hindi as Good Luck Jerry (2022).

The film collected close to ₹4 crore (US$480,000) on the first day and between ₹3.1 crore (US$370,000) to ₹7.1 crore (US$850,000) on the second day. In Tamil Nadu, it grossed ₹14.75 crore (US$1.8 million) in five days.

Internationally, it earned ₹29.02 lakh (US$35,000) in the United States, ₹10.61 lakh (US$13,000) in Canada, ₹24.62 lakh (US$29,000) in the UK, ₹11.74 lakh (US$14,000) in Australia, and ₹33.67 lakh (US$40,000) in Malaysia. By its ninth day, the film had grossed ₹20 crore (US$2.4 million). Overall, at the close of its run, it had grossed ₹73 crore (US$8.7 million).

Due to the film’s success, Yogi Babu announced in July 2023 at the Jailer audio launch that there would be a sequel. Nelson Dilipkumar confirmed in August of the same year that the sequel would be titled Kolamaavu Kokila 2.
