About Series:
In September 2021, Taylor Sheridan announced the development of a series on Bass Reeves, with David Oyelowo starring in the title role. Ordered by Paramount+ in May 2022, the series was initially titled 1883: The Bass Reeves Story and considered a spinoff of 1883, a Yellowstone prequel. However, it was later confirmed to be independent of the Yellowstone universe. The show draws heavily from Sidney Thompson’s books, Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves, and Hell on the Border, part of The Bass Reeves Trilogy.
Filming began in Fort Worth, Texas, in October 2022, with Dennis Quaid joining the production in January 2023. Filming concluded by early June 2023.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves premiered on Paramount+ on November 5, 2023, with the first two episodes airing on CBS on November 12.
