Storyline:

In eastern France, two teenage cousins have the summer of their lives when they paddle a purloined canoe to the far shore of a lake.

Leurs enfants après eux (also known as And Their Children After Them) is an French drama film directed by Ludovic Boukherma, Zoran Boukherma and starring Paul Kircher, Angelina Woreth, Gilles Lellouche and Sayyid El Alami.

It is an adaptation of Nicolas Mathieu’s 2018 novel of the same name, which received the prestigious Prix Goncourt.

Principal photography for the film began on July 25, 2023, in France’s Grand Est region, including locations in the Fensch Valley (Moselle) and the Vosges. The 55-day shoot, with Augustin Barbaroux as the director of photography, concluded on October 10, 2023, at the pier of Lac de Pierre-Percée (Meurthe-et-Moselle).

Leurs enfants après eux premiered on August 31, 2024, as part of the official competition at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. While it was initially scheduled for theatrical release in France by Warner Bros. France on September 18, 2024, the release has been postponed to December 4, 2024. French and international sales are managed by the Paris-based company Charades.
