Set in the 1970’s, Baek Gi Tae is an ambitious man, who thirsts for wealth and power. Jang Gun Yeong is a prosecutor with animalistic instinct and fearsome tenacity. Facing a major incident, Jang Gun Yeong throws his everything to stop Baek Gi Tae. The people around them include Lobbyist Choi Yu Ji, Investigator O Ye Jin, Bae Geum Ji and Chief Secretary Cheon Seok Jeong.

About Made in Korea TV Series

Made in Korea (메이드 인 코리아) is an upcoming South Korean political period drama, set in the 1970s, in which the drama depicts the critical historical episodes of Korea’s modern and contemporary history. Co-written by Park Eun-gyo and Park Joon-suk and directed by Woo Min-ho and starring Hyun Bin as Baek Ki-tae, an ambitious man who pursues wealth and power, and Jung Woo-sung as Jang Geon-young, a vicious prosecutor, the drama uncovers the machinations of political intrigue and pursuit for power in a challenging era in Korea.

Certain media outlets have speculated that the series will serve as a spin-off of the 2018 film The Drug King. However, Hive Media Corp has refuted these claims, stating that “it is a completely different work.” Regarding the budget, initial reports suggested a cost of ₩48 billion (US$41.96 million), while MBC Entertainment estimated it at ₩70 billion (US$61.19 million). Nonetheless, the production company has denied these figures as well.

Development

Made in Korea is a South Korean political period drama film of 2025 sitting from director Woo Min-ho, who has directed films such as Inside Men (2015) and The Man Standing Next (2020). Co-written by Park Eun-gyo and Park Joon-suk, the film is produced by Hive Media Corp, a company with a history of making brave, character-driven movies. The film is set in the 1970s and presents Korea’s political and social turmoil in this time. Even though there was speculation in the media prior to production started, the producers have clarified that Made in Korea is not a spin-off from The Drug King (2018). While the production appears to have a sizeable budget, the resource provided varies too significantly to provide an accurate overall estimate.

Casting

• In February 2024, Hyun Bin was initially reported as considering taking on a lead role, and then on August 29, 2024, he was finally confirmed as Baek Ki-tae, a greedy and ambitious man focused on wealth and power. This is his second collaboration with director Woo Min-ho after Harbin (2024).
• From the start, Jung Woo-sung was confirmed to be the other lead, playing Jang Geon-young, a tenacious prosecutor seeking to thwart Baek Ki-tae.
• The supporting cast includes: Jung Sung-il (Cheon Seok-joong, a powerful Chief Secretary), Won Ji-an (commercial lobbyist Choi Yoo-ji), Seo Eun-soo (detective Oh Ye-jin), Cho Yeo-jeong (Bae Geum-ji), Chahee (Baek So-young, Ki-tae’s younger sister), Lee Joo-yeon (Jang Hye-eun, Geon-young’s sister), and Woo Do-hwan, who plays Ki-tae’s younger brother.

Woo Do-hwan joined the cast as reported in early 2025, adding to the star-studded lineup. Filming began in early 2024, with the series set for exclusive release on Disney+ in 2025.
