About Movie:
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is an American fantasy film directed by Joachim Rønning, serving as a sequel to the 2014 film Maleficent. The screenplay was crafted by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and Noah Harpster. The film features Angelina Jolie reprising her role as Maleficent, alongside a supporting cast that includes Elle Fanning, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, Michelle Pfeiffer.
Set five years after the first film, Mistress of Evil explores the evolving relationship between Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora as they confront external threats and navigate complex family dynamics. The plot centers on the neighboring kingdom’s perception of Maleficent as a villain and introduces the endangered Dark Fey, a powerful fairy race.
Following the success of the first film plans for a sequel were announced in June 2015. Filming began in May 2018 at Pinewood Studios in England. The film premiered on September 30, 2019, in Los Angeles and was released in theaters on October 18, 2019.
Critics offered mixed reviews, praising the performances of Jolie, Fanning, and Pfeiffer while criticizing the plot’s muddled nature and artificial visuals. Despite grossing $491 million worldwide—just shy of the estimated $500 million needed to break even—it received an Academy Award nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 92nd Academy Awards. A third installment in the series is currently in development.
