Storyline:
It is the story of Rani Lakshmibai, one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. She was the first woman in history to fight against the British in the cry of Independence.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is a historical biographical action drama film directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and Kangana Ranaut from a screenplay written by V. Vijayendra Prasad. It was produced by Zee Studios and Kairos Kontent Studios. it marks the directional debut of Ranaut.
The film is based on the life of warrior princess Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi. The film stars Kangana Ranaut in the title role alongside Jisshu Sengupta, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Ankita Lokhande, Atul Kulkarni, and Suresh Oberoi in supporting roles.
The outdoor locations of the film included Jaipur, Jodhpur, Alsisar (Jhunjhunu), and Bikaner in Rajasthan, as well as Narmada Ghat and Ahilya Fort in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, the film was shot at studios in Hyderabad and Mumbai. Principal photography was completed in October 2018.
Kangana Ranaut was admitted to the ICCU ward at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad after suffering a major injury during a fight scene, requiring 15 stitches. She had decided to do it herself, without a body double.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhans is Kangana Ranaut’s fifth title role after Rajjo (2013), Queen (2013), Revolver Rani (2014), and Simran (2017).
The first poster was released on August 15, 2018. Theatrical posters of the film were released in 2 languages for a simultaneous release of the film in Tamil and Telugu with Hindi version on January 4, 2019.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi was released on 3700 screens in 50 countries worldwide on January 25, 2019. The film performed moderately well internationally and in India in its theatrical run. The film is one of the highest-grossing women-centric films in India. The film also became the highest Indian opener in Japan in January 2020.
The film opened to positive critical response. It was selected for the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. Ranaut’s portrayal of Rani Lakshmi Bai garnered widespread critical acclaim winning her the National Film Award for Best Actress at the 67th National Film Awards.
The digital distribution rights for the film were acquired by Amazon Prime Video for ₹40 crore and the satellite rights were purchased at ₹25 crore.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi Movie Sequel:
Kangana Ranaut and producer Kamal Jain have teamed up to work on a sequel titled Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda. The film will be based on the Kashmiri female ruler Didda. Sources close to the development revealed that the new film will be bigger and mounted on an international scale, with the team intending to create a world-class franchise featuring real-life women heroes.
