Storyline:

A man makes a bittersweet journey back to his hometown after 22 years and meets an insistent yet kindhearted relative whose name he can’t remember.

About Meiyazhagan Movie:

Meiyazhagan is a Tamil family action drama film written and directed by C. Prem Kumar. The film stars Karthi in the titular role, alongside Arvind Swamy, Rajkiran, and Sri Divya.

Produced by Jyothika and Suriya under 2D Entertainment, the film has music composed by Govind Vasantha, while Mahendiran Jayaraju handles the cinematography, and R. Govindraj does the editing.

This marks the second collaboration between music composer Govind Vasantha and both director Prem Kumar and actor Karthi, following their earlier projects 96 (2018) and Thambi (2019) respectively.

In July 2023, cinematographer P. C. Sreeram confirmed his involvement in the project. However, by 24 May 2024, it was revealed that Mahendhiran Jayaraju had replaced him, although the reasons for the change were not disclosed.

The film was officially announced in February 2024 under the tentative title Karthi 27, marking Karthi’s 27th film as the lead actor. The official title Meiyazhagan was revealed in May 2024.

Principal photography commenced in November 2023. It was predominantly shot in Chennai and Kodambakkam, and wrapped by 24 February 2024.

Meiyazhagan was released worldwide on 27 September 2024 to critical acclaim with critics who praised the lead cast’s performances (especially Karthi and Aravind Swamy), storyline, Govind Vasantha’s background score, emotional scenes and Premkumar’s screenplay and direction. Home media The satellite and digital rights of the film were acquired by Netflix and Vijay TV. The film premiered on Netflix from 27 October 2024.
