About Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Movie:

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Movie (2025): Release Date, Cast, Story, Photos, Trailer & Everything You Need to Know

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is the sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) and the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series.

On January 14, 2019, Tom Cruise announced plans for the seventh and eighth films to be shot back-to-back, with Christopher McQuarrie writing and directing both. Initially set for release on July 23, 2021, and August 5, 2022, Paramount later decided not to proceed with this plan in February 2021.

Principal photography for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two began on March 23, 2022. Filming locations included Longcross Studios, the Lake District in the UK, Malta, South Africa, and Norway. In December 2022, filming concluded in the UK, with the production moving to Apulia, Italy, to shoot aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush.

Amid the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, production delays were mistakenly reported but clarified as merely awaiting the completion of Part One’s promotion. Filming officially paused in July 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and resumed in March 2024, though a submarine malfunction caused further delays in May.

During filming in England, Tom Cruise and Esai Morales were spotted performing stunts involving an airborne biplane, with Cruise clinging to the aircraft’s wings during inverted flight.

In July 2024, Simon Pegg confirmed via Instagram that he had completed his scenes, though the production maintained a low profile. In November 2024, Cruise confirmed the film had wrapped and entered post-production.

Visual effects are handled by Industrial Light & Magic, with Clear Angle Studios and Halon Entertainment contributing to lidar, cyber scanning, and previsualization. In October 2023, the subtitle “Dead Reckoning Part Two” was removed and replaced with “The Final Reckoning” in November 2024.

Future

In June 2023, Christopher McQuarrie revealed to Fandango that Dead Reckoning Part One and The Final Reckoning would not necessarily conclude the Mission: Impossible series, as ideas for future installments were already in development.

In July 2023, during the promotion of Dead Reckoning Part One, Tom Cruise expressed his enthusiasm for continuing to portray Ethan Hunt in future films. Despite the two films initially being marketed as a farewell to the character, Cruise referenced Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Indiana Jones into his late 70s as inspiration for extending his own role in the franchise.
