Juel Taylor’s directorial debut.

Development on the film began in February 2019 when the screenplay was optioned from The Black List by MACRO Media.

Brian Tyree Henry was initially attached to star as a lead but was eventually replaced by John Boyega in October 2019.

Principal photography began in November 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia. Filming took place in Blackhall Studios and ended in April 2021.

It premiered at the American Black Film Festival on June 14, 2023. The film began a limited theatrical release on July 14, 2023, before streaming on Netflix a week later. They Cloned Tyrone was released on July 21, 2023, on Netflix. The film received positive critical reviews, particularly praise for humor and lead cast performances.
