Storyline:
Outer Banks is set in a coastal town along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where there is a stark social divide between wealthy seasonal residents and working-class locals, nicknamed the “Kooks” and “Pogues”, respectively. The show follows a group of Pogue teenagers who live at The Cut and are determined to find out what happened to the missing father of the group’s ringleader, John B. Along the way, they discover a legendary treasure that is tied to John B’s father.
Chased by the law and a wealthy group of Kooks from Figure Eight, the Pogues seek to overcome obstacles such as love, fighting, friendship, and money.
About Series:
On May 3, 2019, Netflix announced a series order for the first season of Outer Banks, consisting of ten episodes.
Co-creator Jonas Pate initially planned to film in Wilmington, North Carolina, but Netflix chose alternative locations due to the state’s House Bill 2 legislation. Principal photography for the first season began on May 1, 2019, in Charleston, South Carolina, with filming at James Island, Johns Island, Kiawah Island, Morris Island Lighthouse (interior), and Hunting Island Lighthouse (exterior).
On July 24, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for a second season, which was filmed from August 31, 2020, to April 2, 2021. A third season renewal followed on December 7, 2021, with filming running from February 15, 2022, to September 17, 2022.
Filming for the fourth season began on June 17, 2023, marking the show’s first use of locations in greater Wilmington, North Carolina. Production was suspended during the week of July 14, 2023, due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike but resumed on November 20, 2023. Additional filming occurred in February 2024 in Morocco, including Essaouira and Ouarzazate. Filming concluded on June 20, 2024.
On February 18, 2023, ahead of the third season premiere, Netflix renewed the series for a fourth season. On November 4, 2024, ahead of the fourth season’s second-part release, Netflix announced a fifth and final season.
Release Dates
The first season of Outer Banks premiered on April 15, 2020. The second season premiered on July 30, 2021. The third season premiered on February 23, 2023. The fourth season premiered in two parts, with the first being released on October 10, 2024 and the second on November 7, 2024.
