Storyline:

Kate Sullivan is a single mom of three daughters who works two jobs while studying to be a nurse. She is assigned to clean carpets on a yacht owned by spoiled, arrogant playboy Leonardo ‘Leo’ Montenegro. Leo makes rude remarks towards Kate and fires her without pay when she refuses to bring him food. When Kate calls out his behavior, Leo pushes her off the boat along with her cleaning equipment. Meanwhile, in Mexico, Leo’s sisters Magdalena and Sofia are tending to their ailing father. Furious when Leo is announced as his successor to run the family-owned company, Magda decides to visit him. That night, Leo slips off the yacht and falls into the ocean unnoticed. He wakes up on a beach with amnesia and no recollection of his identity. He wanders through town and eventually reaches the hospital. Magda finds him and leaves him there unclaimed after learning he has amnesia. She returns home and falsely reports that Leo has died. Sofia suspects Magda is lying..

About Movie:

In February 2017, Anna Faris appeared on the podcast RuPaul: What’s the Tee with Michelle Visage, where RuPaul suggested she consider remaking a Goldie Hawn film, referencing her resemblance to the actress. Faris expressed her love for Overboard but seemed hesitant about taking on such an iconic role. Co-host Michelle Visage suggested casting Faris’s then-husband, Chris Pratt, as her co-star.

In March 2017, it was announced that Faris and Eugenio Derbez would star in a gender-reversed reimagining of the 1987 classic, directed by Rob Greenberg. Derbez plays a wealthy man who falls off his yacht, only to be found by Faris’s character, a single mother who convinces him he is her husband. Filming began in Vancouver in May 2017, with Eva Longoria joining the cast that same month.

The film, distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Lionsgate Films under the Pantelion Films banner, was initially set for release on April 20, 2018. However, its release date was moved to April 13, 2018, and then to May 4, 2018, to avoid competition with Avengers: Infinity War.

Overboard grossed $50.3 million in the United States and Canada and $40.9 million internationally, achieving a worldwide total of $91.2 million against a production budget of $12 million.
