Storyline:
Rocky Balboa is forced to retire after having permanent damage inflicted on him in the ring by the Russian boxer Ivan Drago. Returning home after the Drago bout, Balboa discovers that the fortune that he had acquired as heavyweight champ has been stolen and lost on the stockmarket by his accountant. His boxing days over, Rocky begins to coach an up-and-coming fighter named Tommy Gunn. Rocky cannot compete, however, with the high salaraies and glittering prizes being offered to Gunn by other managers in town.
About Movie:
Rocky V is an American sports drama directed by John G. Avildsen and written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. As the fifth installment in the Rocky series and a sequel to Rocky IV (1985), it also features Talia Shire, Burt Young, Sage Stallone (making his film debut), Tommy Morrison, and Burgess Meredith.
Development began in 1989 after Stallone completed the screenplay. Avildsen, who directed the first film, was brought back, and principal photography commenced in January 1990, mainly in Philadelphia. Creative differences with United Artists led to the exclusion of darker elements Stallone had envisioned, which he intended as the series’ finale.
Rocky V also marks the final appearances of Shire and Meredith in the series, and Tommy Morrison’s last film before his retirement and subsequent death in 2013 from AIDS complications.
Released on November 16, 1990, Rocky V received mixed to negative reviews, criticized for its screenplay, characterization, continuity errors, and medical inaccuracies. Stallone later expressed regret over the film’s outcome. It is generally considered the weakest entry in the franchise and underperformed at the box office, grossing $119.9 million worldwide, making it the lowest-grossing film in the series. The sequel, Rocky Balboa, was released in 2006.
